Looks Like You Guys Like Watching Yourselves Paddles

Holy smokes!

Although there were no comments left regarding yesterday’s posting of this weekend’s paddling video footage, there were over 400 views.

Hopefully, we can make posting video footage a routine thing.

I’ve slightly redesigned the LARDOnly tab.  From now on, you’ll find password protected stuff in that tab or one of its subpages.

PROTOTYPE: Stohlquist Rocker PFD

June 27, 2009 paddlesports 4 comments

A representative from Stohlquist visited LARD practice today to introduce their prototype Rocker pfd to the team.  The vest below is the only one of its kind right now – it doesn’t even have the US Coast Guard Type III labels on it yet.

Some highlights – the foam is concave so it wraps around your body better and provides a more snug fit, there are 3 pockets, straps are “backpack” style, the inside “meshie” fabric that runs down the spine allows for more ventilation, the pfd sits higher up allowing for more leaning and less chaffing.

K1 & Will had the opportunity to paddle with the pfd today. Hopefully, they’ll be able to provide some comments on what they thought about it.

The pfd will make an appearance tomorrow at LARD’s practice for additional photographs that may make it to the Stohlquist website.

When it’s available, contact TK for team pricing.

Rectovesical Fistula

June 26, 2009 paddlesports 2 comments

So I was listening to the Howard Stern Show the other day (I know, this isn’t starting off well), and a guy calls in and says he can poop out of his schlong (and these aren’t medical terms).

I wasn’t sure if this was a joke, so I emailed Mark for some confirmation.  Here’s Mark’s response (reprinted with Mark’s permission):

He most likely has a Rectovesical Fistula where there’s a fistulous tract between his colon and his bladder likely as a result of diverticulosis/diverticulitis where stool from the intestine enters the bladder via the fistulous tract and comes out of the urethra when he urinates.
When he urinates, he will see stool like material coming out as well and sometimes he will hear a whistle like sound when he urinates as well as air comes out from the uretha from the colon. It gaves a new meaning to whistlewhen you pee!!

You learn something new every day!

Kimm was asking for a picture of herself drinking so I’m taking the opportunity to post her picture and a few more.

Gary C of Killer Guppie/FCRCC fame.  Gary paddled for FCRCC 2 last weekend.  We had a great talk about FCRCC technique and the differences between what FCRCC does and what the US West Coast does in the boat.

There is no other sport where teammates of such varying ages can compete both on the water and off.

Most of you don’t know how hard this guy works behind the scenes.  A beer well deserved.
