Bypassing the 15 Second Voicemail Greeting on Mobile Phones
Remember the three key combo "One Star Pound".
* Step One: Push 1. If your friend is on Sprint (or possibly Verizon, but not always), this skips the greeting and you are done, skip to End. IF you hear a message that says "One is not a valid option" skip to Step Three below, otherwise continue to Step Two.
* Step Two: Push *. If your friend is on Verizon, you'll hear the beep, and can leave your message. Skip ahead to the end now.
* Step Three: Push #. This works for both Cingular and T-Mobile subscribers, and you're all set to go.
Thanks, Lifehacker!
Or just hang up and text them! Or put a bone in your mouth to try and look cool.Dragon Boat Races & the X-Games This Weekend
I’ll be at the Long Beach Dragon Boat Races this entire weekend and the X-Games are at Staples. Man, thank God for TiVo!
Go LARD!My New PFD
My new pfd arrives tomorrow! Too bad I won't be using it for awhile…
I got it for $49 at Cabela's. We have approval to use them for dragon boat practice but I'm not quite sure if we can race with them. Thanks, Nick for finding this for me! Nick and I are going to start a new fad on Mother's Beach! Now, if they only came in red…Long Beach Beaches Reopened!
Good news:
City Health Officer, Dr. Helene Calvet, announced today that the closures at Mother’s Beach, Marine Stadium and Colorado Lagoon … have been lifted.
Here's the link to the Seal Beach Daily article.
Now we can drink the water again!New Flip-Style Camera
I'm sure everyone wants me to get this.
It has image stabilization and the resolution is higher than the HD Flip I currently use.
I'm still waiting for one of these bad boys to have a 10x or 20x optical zoom so I can get some decent footage when you guys try to do pieces on the opposite side of the bay.

Water Quality (or the lack of it) at Mother’s Beach and Marine Stadium
"About 1,000 gallons of sewage entered the water system. Bixby Terrace is about a quarter of a mile from Los Cerritos Channel, which feeds into Mother's Beach, Marine Stadium and Colorado Lagoon.
The spill was first reported by health officials at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the advisory.
The sewage leak was quickly contained. Crews were working Monday to remove blockage believed to be responsible for the problem, the city notice stated."
The entire article is here.
I have the utmost confidence that things will be resolved by this weekend.

Not Something You Want See at a Dragon Boat Festival
"While thousands were out enjoying the Dragon Boat Festival at Sloan's Lake on Sunday, someone spotted a body in the water."

How My iPhone Got Me Out of a Ticket
Driving back to the office from lunch, I was pulled over by the good 'ole Pasadena Police Department for being stopped in an intersection.
I talked my way out of a moving violation (law school came in handy today) but I couldn't find my insurance card.
So the officer decided to write me a ticket for not having proof of insurance. As he was writing the ticket, I got onto the State Farm website via my iPhone and found my insurance information.
I handed my iPhone to the officer and asked him if the information on the screen was the information he was looking for. He said it was but that I needed to have proof of insurance with me wherever I went.
My next question, "Officer, is there a law that says my proof of insurance has to be on paper?"
"Uhm, yes, unless they changed the law… errrr….uhm…. I tell you what, I'll just give you a warning this time."
"Thank you, officer."
I’m on a Mother F’ing Boat!
Most of you on my dragon boat team have heard this song thanks to Morris and Lori. "You can't stop me mother @#$%^& because I'm on a boat!"
I Love Dirt
On my way to practice this weekend, I discovered these dirt jumps.
I wish I would have found these jumps 20 years ago – back when I had a quarter pipe in my backyard and was launching myself into the air on a regular basis.
I'm not going to tell you where I found these (not like anyone really cares) as I know how sensitive riders are to their "secret" spots.
Ride on, fellas – whoever you are.
Interesting Blog – Has Nothing to do with Paddling
There’s an interesting blog about the life of 2 homeless Sims 3 characters. Here’s a quick summary of the blog:
“This is an experiment in playing a homeless family in The Sims 3. I created two Sims, moved them in to a place made to look like an abandoned park, removed all of their remaining money, and then attempted to help them survive without taking any job promotions or easy cash routes. It’s based on the old ‘poverty challenge’ idea from The Sims 2, but it turned out to be a lot more interesting with The Sims 3’s living neighborhood features.
I have attempted to tell my experiences with the minimum of embellishment. Everything I describe in here is something that happened in the game. What’s more, a surprising amount of the interesting things in this story were generated by just letting go and watching the Sims’ free will and personality traits take over.”
It’s interesting that video games can teach us so much about life.
