The Digital Story Photography Workshop

March 21, 2011

This past weekend, I traveled up to Santa Rosa for Derrick Story’s photography workshop.  Even though the rain kept us from going to some of the locations that Derrick had planned out, the workshop was still fantastic.

I learned about the workshop through Derrick’s The Digital Story Podcast.  He’s awesome.  He’s a great teacher, friendly, patient and very pleasant to listen to.

Prior to last weekend, I had no idea how to do portraits so I was very excited to learn from Derrick.  I didn’t have a clue on how to set up the lighting.

The class was limited to 8 participants.  They were all so friendly and energetic.  I learned so much not only from Derrick but the other participants as well.  I really enjoyed having dinner with a few of the participants Saturday night.  As you can probably guess, most of the banter was about photography and tech stuff.  V

One of the assignments we had was to photograph our fellow workshop participants and a model that was hired for us to torture – errr, I mean practice on.

Here are a few of the portraits I made.
